Straighten Up with Invisalign | Tyngsboro Dentist

nightguardWhether your teeth are crowded, too far apart or have shifted, Invisalign may be right for you. But there is no way to tell without the help of a dental exam. Upon an initial examination, a treatment plan will be written up and an impression of your teeth will be taken in order to custom make your first set of aligners. With 3-D computer technology, Invisalign carefully translates the dentist’s instructions into a series of precisely customized aligners. The aligners will move your teeth gradually week by week until you achieve the smile you have always desired.

An Invisalign treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position.

We will show you a virtual treatment plan generated by Align Technology’s unique ClinCheck® software shows the series of movements your teeth will go through over the course of the treatment. This allows you to see upfront what your teeth are expected to look like at the end of the treatment. From the results of the ClinCheck software, your custom-made, clear aligners are produced especially for you.

If you are eligible for this treatment plan, Invisalign is the best way to transform your smile without interfering with your day-to-day life.

Toast Your Smile with Red Wine | Tyngsboro Dentist

Here we are, wrapping up one more holiday season and about to embark on a brand-new year. It’s an exciting time of year to say the least, between the events and hectic schedules. We need a moment to relax and soak in everything the season has to offer. What better time for a nice glass of wine? Not only can a glass of red wine ease some of the holiday tensions, but it can also help prevent dental issues in the future. According to research published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, red wine contains antimicrobial elements that were found to help kill bacteria in simulated lab tests. While the same result was produced by taking in shots of grape seed extract, who wants to drink grape seed extract when there’s red wine on the table?

Cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss are caused by the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth. When together, they form communal groups of bacteria that turn into plaque, produce acid, and are difficult to kill. In order to test this red wine theory, scientists grew cultures of mouth mimicking bacteria, and dipped them into different liquids such as red wine, alcohol-free red wine, and red wine with grape seed extract. Out of the three, red wine proved the most effective in eliminating bacteria.

While red wine has proved to protect our teeth against gum disease, keep in mind that red wine still does a great job in staining our teeth. Make sure you take a moment to practice proper dental hygiene after indulging in this adult beverage. Enjoy the holiday season!
